Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology

Education

Indiana University, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offers pediatric and adolescent gynecology training experiences for residents and fellows with support from Samantha Vilano, MD, MSc.

Shared and collaborative faculty can arrange clinical and research experience tailored to the educational goals of the learner. In addition to Riley Hospital for Children, IU offers potential adolescent care training at Eskenazi Health Services through eight Teen Care Health Programs and six Young Parent Child Clinics that provide support for pregnant and/or parenting adolescents. Additional specialized training experiences include: Multidisciplinary Eating Disorders Clinic, Riley Teen Clinic serving teens with special needs and Adolescent Colposcopy Clinic.

Specialized Pediatric Training is arranged via collaborative arrangements with General Pediatric Services at Riley and Eskenazi Hospitals, Pediatric General Surgery, and Pediatric Urology. Training is also available with the Sexual Abuse Clinic at Eskenazi/Riley where 500 victims of sexual abuse are evaluated and treated each year.

Clinical Service

Specialized care for pediatric and adolescent patients is provided in the areas of eating disorders, adolescent colposcopy, sexually transmitted diseases, sexual behavior in teens and common gynecologic complaints in pre-pubertal girls.

Research

A variety of research opportunities are available. In addition to possible clinical research through the Gynecology Department, the IU Young Women's Project offers experience with a large scale, long-term research program investigating reproductive health, STDs and sexual behavior in teens.
